Okay, its been a while, but hopefully this time I'll actually stay updating at least more often the once a year. So first off, going to update the header. Doing some work on the monkey to explore facial animations and lip synching....so far so good.
Okay, its been way too long since I've updated or done anything to this poor ol neglected site. So first off, I'm posting some synth related images that I was mussing around with. Just exploring how to retain the cartoon look of the original logo but also bring it into the 3rd dimension. Quite happy with how it turned out, and since I had the zbrush face all ready to rock, I figured why not see how creepy I could get it to look. I quite like both of them, so they both got used in replacing those poor ol tired monekys from yesteryear :). So now that I've broke the seal on posting stuff, I'm going to try.....once again, to make this more then every other month. We'll see how that goes.
The portfolio and unity pages were lagging behind. So I updated them with some newer content. Also spent a lil time getting the image on the left a bit closer to being finished....but still not quite there, but closer then it was ;). So with that all finished up, im back to getting this marine done
Whipped up a lil turn table of what I have done so far on the future cop/marine characters, so you can check that out here. With the guns finalized, I'm now off to do the animations and get him finished up and out the door. The final product will ship with several textures, the texture pictured here is called "bug hunt" as its very starship trooper inspired :D.
The Lizard thing is almost ready to be submitted....but he's ready for early eyeballin here so you can go check em out a few days before he goes live ;). He weighs in at 5.3k poly, a bit higher then I wanted, but he was a lot less streamlined looking then the alien, plus I picture this being a tougher creature so you shouldn't need whole herds of them on screen at the same time. Had fun with the textures so he'll ship with 20 textures. Basically, 5 base colors with different levels, or a complete absence of markings. Animations are very similar to the alien set, with subtle changes due to different proportions and them damn floppy lizard feet....and of course the addition of a tail. Anyhoo, he was a complete hoot to make, now its off to make something to cull the herds of aliens :D.
Now that the Alien has been sent off and awaiting approval its time to get started on the next one. So my criteria for this one was to stick with the claw, claw bite generic bad guy, and who better then a good ol fashioned lizard man. Plus I get to animate a tail with this guy and that's always a hoot. The high poly model with color is done (as pictured), So its over to TopoGun to bring em down to around 4k or so then stuff a skeleton in em.
Finally made the necessary changes to the imp and further cut down his poly count to get him Unity ready (3k). The image to the left is a screen capture from the unity build and not a render, so no smoke and mirrors to make em look cool :D. To see what he looks like in motion click this here . He is shipping with 28 animations total, basically everything you'd need to make em the bullet catching fodder style bad guys in a SciFi or even fantasy setting. For me he is going to be my launch point to get more familiar with Unitys mecanim and ragdoll functionality so I can eventually mow down a whole heard of these things with some auto cannons and have it look crazy cool :D. Now for the less then fun part of packaging him up, making some pretty icons, then submitting to Unity. So with any luck he should be on the Asset Store in around Tuesday.
So all her bits and pieces and have been uploaded and she's up for sale. In the end she ended up with 4 hairstyles in various colors and her dress and bows come in 7 different colors. Also chucked in some black and white base texture templates for anyone who wants to make her some more customized dresses or hair styles. So she's all cinched up, and even in time for Halloween :D.
So here she is...and almost done to boot!. Got a lot of great responses to the original young kobold avatar and his accessories, thanks everyone for that. So very soon he'll have a sister in SL. The kit will include 3 hair styles in a few colors the dress and ribbons and the base textures will be included as well, so you can go nuts an create your own styles. That's the plan anyway, looking pretty good to have her out before the weekend. Also, she is proportioned the same as the original young Kobold, so anything that fits him, fits her as well......So yeah, you can put your little kobold dude in this dress if the urge strikes ya :D.....Oh yeah, and the dress and ribbons are not painted yet, I just plastered em with purple to put together a pretty lil render for a long overdue blog post ;)
Finally decided to learn some more of what Zbrush is capable of. Specifically, hard surface modeling, mesh insert, group loops, panel loops and some curve brushes just for good measure. I'm really digging the hard edge meets organic curves look, so I'll be revisiting the above monkey banner in the near future to bring out the "Synthetic" aspect of the monkeys. Also in the que is the Dwarf character set, working on armor now and some extra hard edge knowledge definitely wont hurt the overall look for sure.
